How do I get a Scoutmaster conference?

Scouts, remember, once you have completed all the requirements for a rank, you must have a talk with the Scoutmaster, called a Scoutmaster conference.

To schedule a conference you need to send an e-mail to Mr. Hughes:

In your e-mail tell Mr. Hughes the following:
Your name:
Rank for which you have completed the work:
When you can meet:
The best phone number with which to call you to confirm the meeting and location:

IF you are advancing to the rank of Star, Life or Eagle you must complete another step: You must request a your personal history report from Advancement Chair Mrs. Cotter boyscoutmom@centurylink.net

In your e-mail, request the report be sent to you and the Scoutmaster. The personal history report tells all your recorded campouts, service projects, positions of responsibility, merit badges earned, partials, etc. If there are any missing requirements on your personal history report YOU will need to fill in the gaps, using records you have such as merit badge cards, your handbook, etc. If there is an empty spot, it may be because your participation was not reported to the-advancement-chair. For example, if you participated in an Eagle Scout project for service hours and the list of scouts who volunteered was not turned in to the-advancement-chair, then it will not be on your record. If this is the case, you can e-mail for help from the Senior Patrol Leader, or the Assistant Scoutmaster that works with your patrol, or to the Troop Committee Chair Mike Neff.

Remember, wear your Scout uniform, including neckerchief, belt, and Sscout socks. Bring your Scout Handbook and red binder, and always, Be Prepared.

How do I take care of a partial merit badge from summer camp?

First, request a blue card from Angela Meehan ameehan2357@gmail.com. She will see if a counselor is available within the troop for your merit badge. If so, she will fill out a blue card using your individual history report (provided by the Advancement Chair) to mark the completed requirements on the blue card. Then the card will be given to the Scoutmaster for signature. Once signed, the blue card will be given to you. Now that you know the counselor you can talk to them about completing the badge.

How do I apply for a position of responsibility

To serve as Troop Guide, Historian, Order of the Arrow Troop Representative, Chaplain Aide, Librarian, Quartermaster, Scribe, Bugler, or Instructor you must talk to the Senior Patrol Leader and tell him you are interested in a position. At the same time that you talk to him, you must give him a written request for a position of responsibility. This will help him remember your request, and help him to know you are serious about helping the troop.

Your written request should include your name, your rank, your patrol, the positions you are interested in serving, and what skills, training, or experiences you have that would help you serve the troop in the role you are requesting. You can also mention what you would be willing or able to do if selected.

Remember, other positions of responsibility are handled differently, either by appointment or election, and include: Senior Patrol Leader, Assistant Senior Patrol Leader, Patrol Leader, Den Chief, & Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. You can ask the Senior Patrol Leader and the Scoutmaster for more information about these roles and responsibilities.

Find a merit badge counselor?

There are several ways:

1. Ask Angela Meehan ameehan2357@gmail.com, the merit badge coordinator (address on bottom of home page)

2. See if the badge is being offered at summer camp.

3. Ask someone qualified to sign up as a counselor. For example, you could ask your music teacher to be a counselor for music merit badge, or you could ask your art teacher to sign up as a counselor for art or sculpture. To sign someone up, contact the merit badge coordinator for the application forms.

.How do I get a board of review?

After completing all the requirements for a rank you request a Scoutmaster conference. Once you have completed the conference and been approved to advance to your new rank, you request a board of review from the Troop Committee Chair, Mr. Mike Neff, troop225.mrneff@gmail.com.
He will set up an appointment with you, usually during a Scout meeting, to hold your review.

When you come to the appointment, you should wear your Scout shirt, Scout pants or shorts, Scout socks, Scout belt, and Scout neckerchief. You should have your binder and Scout Handbook. In your binder should be the latest version of your personal history report which shows the work you have done, and the date completed.

You will likely be asked to recite the Scout Oath and Law from memory at every board of review. Be prepared.

How do I change my e-mail address for troop mailings, or get taken off the e-mail list?

How do I get a Medical Form?

Medical Exam Form: at Troop website Forms page

This form is needed by the Troop to use in case of an emergency on a campout. Also, this form is needed for Boy Scout Summer Camp.

Remember, you may not need a brand new exam by the doctor, you can carry the form to your doctor, and they will fill it out based on the most recent physical. It must be within one year of the date for summer camp.

Then the form gets turned in to Advancement Chair: Mrs. Cotter boyscoutmom@centurylink.net

Tip: Every year that your Scout goes to the doctor for a physical exam, take a blank scout medical form for them to fill out. In this way, you will always be prepared for summer camp.

The correct policy is to ask for Scoutmaster approval before the event, then the hours are submitted, typically under the honesty system if it's a small event. A managing adult or Eagle Scout candidate will submit hours from a large event such as helping with an Eagle project, parking cars for the church, or participating in Scouting for Food. The key is preapproval.
